Lazuli
On April 24, 2006, litter-mates HP and Young gave birth to a mix litter of 7 pups, Shaka Zulu, Flax, Bernard, Lallie, Landie, Teaser and Caroline. For the first three weeks of Shaka Zulu life, he and his litter-mates stayed underground, then came above ground and saw the light of day for the first time. When Shaka Zulu and his litter-mates were a month old, they started to forage with the group. With Aretha being the dominant female, and HP and Young being subordinate females in the group, the group didn't get much protection or helper from the rest of the group. But even with the help, the whole litter survived their first few months and the winter. By September, Young was pregnant and Shaka Zulu was 5 months old and still the youngest in the group. On October 2, 20006, Young gave birth to Bash, Bish and Bosh. Shaka Zulu and his litter-mates were still to young to help care of the pups and just focus on them. Three months later, Shaka Zulu is 8 months old, but this time, Mangojerry gave birth to Papillon. Again, Shaka Zulu and his littermates were still young and didn't help much with taking care of the pup.
April soon came and Shaka Zulu and his litter-mates turn one year old could now help with taking care of the pups and watching out for danger. But a month later, Shaka Zulu's sister Flax died. Four months later, Shaka Zulu's litter-mates Lallie and Teaser died. In January gave birth to Calvinia, Christiana, Prieska and Lutzputz. Shaka Zulu (VLM124) was born April 24, 2006 in the Lazuli . His litter-mates were Flax (VLF118), Bernard (VLM119), Lallie (VLF120), Landie (VLF121), Teaser (VLM122), and Caroline (VLF123). His mother was either HP or Young. At his birth, Aretha was the dominant female of Lazuli. Aretha died and Young became the dominant female. A group of males from the Whiskers joined the group. Wollow (VWM106) took dominance.
Hoppla
Shaka Zulu and four other Lazuli males teamed up with five females to form the Hoppla Mob. The group started to show signs of disease, Shaka Zulu and one of the females were the first ones to go, they disappeared in October of 2008.
Zulus
Shaka Zulu reappeared with 18 with meerkats in April 2010. The new group is called the Zulus Mob and Shaka Zulu is dominant male.
